Green Energizing Smoothie

green-energizing-smoothie

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so you should make the most of what you eat when you first wake up. Aim to have your first meal within an hour of waking up. A great way to ensure you get the most out of your breakfast is to have a meal that is packed with protein and superfoods to give you tons of energy for the day.

This is my favorite smoothie recipe. It contains a vegetarian maca protein powder, which has organic oat bran fiber to fill you up. So, unlike most smoothies this one will leave you full for a while killing future cravings. Maca is a root grown in the mountains of Peru, and is rich in vitamins B, C, and E. It supplies iron and helps restore red blood cells, increases energy, decreases PMS symptoms, balances mood, improves sexual function, and clears up skin. I also add in avocado to give it a creamy consistency. Avocados are nutritional powerhouses that regulate blood sugar, lower cholesterol, maintain heart health, control blood pressure, promote eye health, fight free radicals, cure bad breath, increase nutrient absorption, and have anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties.

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop of vegetarian protein powder (I use Maca Up by Paradise Herbs - it is a non-gmo, pea and organic brown rice protein blend that also has an aminogen enzyme formula to increase protein digestibility and amino acid absorption)
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/2 cup of greens (spinach, chard, kale, etc.)
  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil (melt to turn to liquid then pour in blender)
  • 1 scoop of sunflower seed butter
  • 1 scoop of cacao
